Obituary for Willie Wong

Willie Wong
Wong, Willie passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 29, 2016 at the age of 100 in Oxnard, California. Willie was born in Vallejo, California on April 3, 1916. His parents were Sam and Minnie Wong. They moved to and lived in Santa Rosa, California establishing the first Chinese Restaurant there. After serving in the Army, he moved to Sacramento with his wife Mabel and four children in the late 1940’s. He worked at McClellan AFB and eventually they owned their own grocery store in the north area of Sacramento.

He is survived by his four children, Eddie Wong-Dai, Donald (Lorraine) Wong, Shirley (Keeter) Wong-Snider and Lorraine Fong. Eight grandchildren: Derek Dai, Tyson Dai, Yvette (Terry) DuHamel, Everett (Shelly) Wong, Barry (Georgette) Keeter, Scott (Dawn) Keeter, Kendolyn Fong and Vaughn Fong, 16 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren, his sister Charlotte Lau of San Francisco and predeceased by his brother Bob Wong of Santa Rosa.

Willie loved hunting and fishing which he began at a very young age and throughout his lifetime has taught his sons, daughters and grandchildren how to fish. He enjoyed watching baseball and football games on television, action packed movies and being involved with his children grandchildren and family activities. His hobbies were fishing, cooking, gardening, sports programs, playing slots and most of all eating his favorite foods. Willie will always be remembered for his sense of humor by everyone that knew and met hi, and the lessons that he has taught others. We find great comfort in knowing Willie is now at peace in Heaven.
